Now that I'm back home for the holidays I had a chance to begin personalising my new bedroom. Just little things, I'm hoping to get some framed artwork on the walls soon. Etsy is so great for handmade stuff, absolutely recommend a browse. Last night I spent about 45 minutes window shopping. Sigh. I miss money.
001. Coloured paper bunting from Tiger. £1 for 10m is great value, I was able to go around the whole coving.
002. Inspired by artwork I'd seen on Etsy, I used acrylics to paint eighteen Twin Peaks-styled illustrations. I painted an existing frame white and used brown paper as a border.
002. Varnished wooden frames painted white perfected my shrine for Laura Palmer. Munchkin (the hamster money-bank) certainly agrees.

♡TEEN IDLE♡
I wanna be an idle teen, I wish I hadn't been so clean...
I'm very proud to debut my first music video, Teen Idle by Marina and the Diamonds. Marina talked about this song in an interview: "I originally got the idea for the song seeing a jumper at a fashion show that had huge holes on it with 'Teen Idle' emblazoned across the front. Lyrically, it's a strange song as it crosses polar opposite themes -- innocence and darkness. I had waited a long time to write that song and it helped me acknowledge some experiences that I'd had in my teenage years. Ages 16-20 were kind of blackout years for me- Like I didn't even live them or they didn't belong to my life. I don't really remember them. It's most definitely one of my fan base's favorite songs on 'Electra Heart'. I'm really proud of it. The nicest thing about being an artist is realizing that a feeling or experience you had that you always thought was really obscure or embarrassing, is in fact very common, and that we all deal with pretty much the same stuff in one way or another."
Taking Marina's idea, I created a concept where a woman is looking back on her past and regretting how she lived out her youth. I played on the lyric "Feelin' super super super suicidal!" and storyboarded a sequence where the idle teen (played by Emily Victoria) carries out her last moments in a hotel room, where she poisons herself in true vintage Hollywood form. Just before she dies, she lives out her final fantasy by imagining being crowned 'Teen Idle'.
The film took several months worth of pre-production, one day to shoot and a week in post-production. I'm very happy with the result, and would hope to one day get Marina's feedback on my take of her song.

Get Your Gleek On.
Hello again, I'm rubbish at this whole commitment thing but I'm back with a new blog post, finally.
One of my best friends at uni had a Glee/Mean Girls-themed party. It was a massive success; the place was packed, everyone made an effort to dress up and the I'm happy to say that the music playing was NOT from Glee! Here's some snaps.

Cyclemania!
Emily's family were kind enough to invite me to Hampton Court Palace's 'Cyclemania', an after party to celebrate the cycling race that went through the town. It was packed full of people who had brought picnics and (naturally) their own bikes. We had a great time looking around the place - with gold medals on entry! - until Emily and I had a haunted encounter with a creepy stairwell :(
(we have no idea who that child is in the last photo, he jumped in last minute!)
Let the Games begin!
Last Friday, Polly and I went to the Rose Theatre in Kingston, because they were showing the Olympic Opening Ceremony on a massive 32-square feet screen! I'd never been before, so was surprised to see the room could hold 800 spectators! It was a really great night because (as well as being free!) there was a great sense of community. We laughed, we cheered, we even did the initial countdown together! Fab night, we'll probably go back to watch the closing ceremony too. (the Spice Girls are rumoured to perform!)
